Question 1

What is Pot in poker?

Accepted Answer

The total chips or money wagered by all players in a hand, awarded to the winner at showdown or when all other players fold.

Question 2

What is Fold in poker?

Accepted Answer

To discard your hand and forfeit any claim to the current pot. A folded hand cannot be retrieved.

Question 3

What is Raise in poker?

Accepted Answer

To increase the current bet amount. Other players must call the new amount, re-raise, or fold.

Question 4

What is Call in poker?

Accepted Answer

To match the current bet or raise without increasing it. A call by the last player still to act closes the betting round. A player who cannot cover the full amount may call all-in for less, which creates a side pot contested by the remaining players.

Question 5

What is Check in poker?

Accepted Answer

To decline to bet when no bet has been made in the current betting round, passing the action to the next player while keeping your hand. If everyone checks, the round ends with no additional chips in the pot. Checking is normally signalled by saying 'check' or tapping the table. Be aware that in some British and home-game usage 'pass' means fold rather than check, so the unambiguous verbal at the table is 'check.'

Question 6

What is All-In in poker?

Accepted Answer

To wager all of your remaining chips on a single hand. You stay eligible for the portion of the pot you contributed to but cannot act again. If opponents with larger stacks continue betting beyond your all-in amount, a side pot is created that you cannot win. Hands are only turned face up once a player is all-in and all betting action by the other players in the hand is finished — in a multiway pot with two live stacks still betting, that may not happen until the river. At that point every hand in the main pot and in any side pot is tabled and the remaining board cards are dealt. On the mechanics, the 2026 TDA rules require that a player put in all of their chips or none of them: pushing out a token amount while announcing all-in is no longer accepted, and the dealer pushes the chips back and places the all-in button instead. Deliberately leaving a single chip behind is treated as a legitimate strategic choice rather than an all-in, so a player must not be forced to commit it — but that player is responsible for telling the dealer they are not all-in if the button goes out, and may not conceal the chip.

Question 7

What is Ante in poker?

Accepted Answer

A forced bet placed by every player (or one player on behalf of the table) before cards are dealt. Antes put dead money in every pot, which raises the reward for stealing the blinds and loosens play generally. Tournaments normally introduce antes only at later levels, and many now collect the whole table's ante from one player as a big blind ante rather than individually.

Question 8

What is Blind in poker?

Accepted Answer

A forced bet posted before cards are dealt by the one or two players to the left of the button, which seeds every pot with money to contest. The small blind is typically half the big blind. The button and the blinds move one seat clockwise each hand so the cost is shared evenly. In a tournament the amounts rise on a fixed schedule; in a cash game they never change. Heads-up is the exception to the seating rule: the button posts the small blind and the other player posts the big blind.

Question 9

What is Muck in poker?

Accepted Answer

To discard your cards face-down without revealing them, either when folding or after losing at showdown. Also refers to the pile of discarded cards.

Question 10

What is Showdown in poker?

Accepted Answer

The final phase of a hand where remaining players reveal their cards to determine the winner.

Question 11

What is Flop in poker?

Accepted Answer

The first three community cards dealt face-up simultaneously in Hold'em and Omaha variants.

Question 12

What is Turn in poker?

Accepted Answer

The fourth community card dealt face-up after the flop betting round in Hold'em and Omaha.

Question 13

What is River in poker?

Accepted Answer

The fifth and final community card dealt face-up after the turn betting round in Hold'em and Omaha.

Question 14

What is Board in poker?

Accepted Answer

The shared face-up community cards in the center of the table, dealt in three stages — the flop, the turn, and the river. In Hold'em a player may use any combination of hole cards and board cards, including all five board cards and neither hole card ('playing the board'), in which case the best possible result is a split pot, since every opponent can use those same five cards. In Omaha a player must use exactly three board cards and exactly two hole cards, so playing the board is impossible. Stud and draw games have no board at all, which is why board-texture reasoning does not transfer to them.

Question 15

What is Kicker in poker?

Accepted Answer

An unpaired card used to break ties between hands of equal rank. The highest kicker wins.

Question 16

What is Royal Flush in poker?

Question 18

What is Four of a Kind in poker?

Accepted Answer

Question 19

What is Full House in poker?

Question 20

What is Flush in poker?
