Double Board Bomb Pot PLO

communityhigh complexity4-9 players (ideal: 7)

Also known as: DBBP, Double Board PLO, Bomb Pot PLO, DBPLOBP

A bomb-pot format that has spread rapidly through live cash games and home games since around 2023. Every player antes a fixed amount, there is no pre-flop betting, and two complete five-card boards are dealt. Each board wins half the pot, and a player who wins both boards scoops. Usually dealt as 4-card PLO, occasionally 5-card.

Quick Rules

  1. Every player antes an agreed amount before the deal; there are no blinds and no pre-flop betting.
  2. Each player is dealt 4 hole cards (some groups use 5).
  3. Two separate flops are dealt, then two turns, then two rivers.
  4. Betting rounds occur after the double flop, double turn, and double river — 3 betting rounds total.
  5. Standard Omaha rules apply per board: exactly 2 hole cards and exactly 3 cards from that board.
  6. Each board wins half the pot; winning both boards scoops.

Strategy Notes

You need equity on both boards to bet profitably; a monster on one board and nothing on the other is often just a half-pot freeroll that gets quartered by a scooper. Nut draws and double-board coverage hands (rundowns, double-suited hands) go up in value; one-board naked sets go down. Because there is no pre-flop betting, everyone sees the flops with random holdings — expect wide ranges and be less willing to stack off on one board alone.

Home Game Tips

Best used as an occasional injection into a regular game — a common convention is one bomb pot per orbit or every time the dealer button passes a marked seat. Agree the ante size before the first one is run; too large an ante turns the game into a lottery. Card supply is fine 9-handed with 4 hole cards (36 + 10 = 46), but deal without burns if you run it with 5 hole cards. Announce clearly that the pot is split per board — new players routinely try to combine the two boards.

No dedicated game type. Use PLO and configure the bomb-pot ante as an ante-only level or track it manually; dual-board dealing and payout split are dealer-managed.
