Pineapple

communitylow complexity2-10 players (ideal: 7)

Also known as: Regular Pineapple

A Hold'em variant where each player receives three hole cards and must discard one before the flop is dealt. The extra starting card creates stronger starting hands and more action than standard Hold'em.

Quick Rules

  1. Each player is dealt 3 hole cards face down.
  2. Before the flop, each player discards 1 card.
  3. Remaining play is identical to Texas Hold'em: flop, turn, river.
  4. Players use any combination of their 2 remaining hole cards and 5 community cards.
  5. Standard hand rankings apply.

Strategy Notes

Starting hand quality is higher since players see three cards and keep the best two. This means stronger average hands at showdown. Bluffing decreases in effectiveness since opponents hold better hands more often.

Home Game Tips

An easy variant to introduce to Hold'em players since the only change is the extra card and pre-flop discard. Good as a one-round addition in a dealer's choice rotation.
