Razz
Also known as: Seven-Card Stud Low, Stud Lowball
Seven-Card Stud played for the lowest hand. Aces are always low, and straights and flushes do not count against you. The best possible hand is A-2-3-4-5 (the wheel). No qualifying requirement — the lowest five-card combination wins.
Quick Rules
- Dealt identically to Seven-Card Stud: 2 down, 4 up, 1 down over 5 betting rounds.
- The HIGHEST up card posts the bring-in (opposite of regular Stud).
- Lowest 5-card hand wins. Aces are always low.
- Straights and flushes do not count — A-2-3-4-5 is the best hand.
- Pairs are bad — unpaired low cards are the goal.
Strategy Notes
Start with three cards 8 or lower, ideally with an ace. Catching face cards or pairs on later streets is devastating. Tracking opponents' up cards is critical — their visible high cards are your allies since they are less likely to improve.
Home Game Tips
A fun change of pace for groups tired of high-hand games. Explain clearly that straights and flushes do not count and aces are low. Players accustomed to high-hand games will initially struggle with hand evaluation.
